Fiction 20 Down

The middle of the day in the middle of June
door opens wide and in comes a world
Pretty girl with her welcoming eyes
and it seems as though I've got the only invitation

Thoughts spark, but they freeze just the same
that's a world I wanna know, but i know myself, I'll never show
An easy word, that's all that it'd take
if only I wouldn't play it safe

I write this 20 years up the line
and I pray that it's fiction 20 down

A noisy room, a center stage
the perfect place, a friend awaits
A mic, a 6-string, and world of dreaming
just another beer, just another night

They push, they prod, I wink, I nod
a comfortable lie from an uncomfortable fool
Just one step, one strum, one song
that's all it'd take... if only
I wouldn't play it safe

I write this 20 years up the line
and I pray that it's fiction 20 down

I've spent my days wasting bated breath
And of it all I've found a means, and an end I can only regret
